2006 Georgie Awards Finalist - "Best Residential Renovation (under $75,000)"
Dynamic transformation of a tired, impractical condominium improves quality of life for current and future needs without resembling depressing hospitals. The 1960's kitchen was original, finishes were tired and worn, lighting and the electrical were poor and in need of upgrading. The new kitchen features a beautiful transformation within the original footprint. Filling in a door provided space for an eating bar; more counter work space and feature art glass door upper cabinets.
- Materials were carefully selected to withstand a lot of use: porcelain tile with epoxy grout, granite, maple cabinets, and stainless steel.
- Appliances meet all new energy ratings and a silent running exhaust fan and dishwasher were incorporated.
- A water filter frees up space.
- Lighting options depending on task or mood.
- Lower cabinets incorporate full extension drawers, pull-outs and a magic corner for accessibility.
- Details include setting back the upper cabinets near the gas range, a pull-out shelf under the microwave, pantry cabinets with rollouts, and the unexpected, hidden desk/communication centre.
Other features of the renovations include:
- Enlarging doors provides better, safer access
- Maximized accessible storage everywhere
- Safe, easy-to-clean drive-in shower stall with seat
- Low voltage lighting to create dramatic, uplifting ambiance
- Low consumption toilet with shower seat
Thanks for the follow up. Happy to report that all is well and our family is enjoying our home very much. There is always lots of compliments whenever we have guests over.
