Asbestos and Your Home Renovation

Are you considering a home renovation? Is your home built before 1990? Are you familiar with Asbestos?Asbestos is a fire-resistant mineral fibre used in construction of houses prior to 1990. Asbestos is no longer used in construction as it can cause serious health risks to you and your family. When renovating an older home you should have a qualified person inspect and safely remove asbestos. Some potential sources of asbestos include but are not limited to the following:

• Duct insulation and tape
• Textured of stipple-coated walls and ceilings
• Acoustical tiles and stipple or popcorn ceiling
• Gypsum board filling compound and patching and joint compound for walls and ceilings.
• Soundproofing or decorative material sprayed on walls and ceilings
• Batt insulation
• Loose blown-in insulation such as vermiculite
